A former U.S. soccer star has slammed the US Open as a “disgusting, disgusting event” for its final match on Sunday, calling it a “total disgrace” and a “betrayal” of his former country.
Sasha Kowalski, the former US Women’s National Team captain and the current coach of the Kansas City Wizards soccer team, told CBC’s Power & Politics that the tournament is a “complete disgrace.”
He said that while he was in the US playing for the USSF in the 1970s and 80s, there was nothing like it, and he’s not just talking about the US women’s team.
“The American women’s soccer team is an embarrassment,” he said.
“The American men’s team is a disgrace, too.
It’s a total disgrace.”
Kowalskis father was a US national team player, as well, but he also grew up in Kansas City.
The American soccer player also said that he was disappointed that a player from his country could win an event like the USOC, even if he’s playing for a national team.
In an interview with the New York Post, Kowalksi said that his father was “not only a great American, but a great man, a great guy.”
“He was the most loyal of guys,” Kowalingki said.
“He always went out of his way to try to help us and to support us, and always did.
He’s a great person, and I am so proud to call him a son and a father.”
And he’s a very nice man.
“Kovacs family, meanwhile, released a statement to CBC News on Saturday that expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support they’ve received for the men’s players in the final.”
As you all know, we are grateful for the love, prayers and support of the United States Soccer Federation, and all of the families of the men and women who have made it all possible,” the statement read.”
We are also thankful for the tremendous outpouring and support from all Americans.
“Kellyanne Fitzpatrick, Kellyanne’s wife, told the Post that her family has been overwhelmed with support from around the world.”
I think it’s amazing to see the support that our family has gotten in this situation, because it’s just not just us,” she said.”[Our children] are just devastated and they’re not able to comprehend what happened.
