Donald Trump is pushing for a ban on transgender athletes, telling an American audience on Wednesday that it’s like “a terrorist attack” on our sports.
“There’s so much disrespect for our athletes,” Trump told the crowd in Kansas City, Kan., before asking, “Are you going to let our athletes play in front of all these beautiful people?”
“Are we going to have them all playing together in one place?” he continued.
“It’s going to be a terrorist incident.
And they’re going to all come out and play.”
“It is a terrorist event.
And you will all come together,” Trump said.
“The best athletes, the best athletes and the best people, they are going to play together, and they’re not going to do anything.
And we’re going a lot of work.”
Trump’s comments come after a transgender woman in Florida filed a discrimination complaint against him for barring transgender athletes from competing in a high-profile game.
“I have a transgender sister and I have a son that plays baseball,” Trump had told an audience of cheering supporters in Iowa in October.
“He was on the team.
And he was the best pitcher, the greatest hitter, the most talented player in the game.
And so it is a great honor to have him on our team.”
Trump is also known for being a staunch supporter of sports, having been a frequent attendee at events like the World Series and Super Bowl.
He has also been a regular Trump critic on social media, with his most recent tweet mocking a disabled journalist.
“This is the man that created the ‘Access Hollywood’ tape,” Trump wrote.
“So if he were disabled, he would be able to see what the real sex of the person in front is.
