There’s a new contender in the field of soccer world soccer competitions.
The International Federation of Sports Federations, the umbrella group for FIFA, has announced it will create a new division for world soccer, called the UEFA World Cup.
A major goal of the new division is to give more teams a shot at qualifying for the tournament.
The announcement comes a month after FIFA announced it would award the 2018 World Cup to the nation with the best national soccer team in the country.
“The current system is not sustainable for all countries, so it’s a very important change that is needed for the future,” said Michael Cramer, the executive director of the International Federation.
“We need to be realistic and recognize that the competition is going to change.
We need the countries that are the best to compete, and we also need to find new ways to make that competitive and that exciting.”
This will allow for a new system that’s more representative of the population of the world, he added.
