When it comes to learning how to play ballet, there’s no better time than right now, according to some experts.
In an interview with the Guardian, a professional ballet dancer named Jodie wrote about how her career has been a journey, but there is no time to waste, even if it means going into a sport with very little exposure.
Jodie’s ballet career has always been a passion of hers.
She grew up playing in her parents’ dance company, The Flamingo Ballroom, and attended dance school in England and Canada before moving to the United States.
“I had ballet lessons when I was younger, but I just didn’t feel like it was my thing,” she told The Guardian.
“When I came to the US, I really got into it and felt like I wanted to do something with ballet.”
The Flamingos dance is based on the original ballet of Jean-Luc Godard, the legendary French composer who made the original movie for the 1970s.
It was not until a few years ago that Jodies first exposure to ballet was through ballet teacher Toni Gershwin.
In 2013, Gerschwin moved to New York City and started teaching in the Flamingoes dance studio, but when she returned to France in 2016, she saw Jodys dancing.
“I was like, ‘You’re amazing,'” Gershlwins told The New York Times.
“She’s like, [I’m] totally blown away.”
After graduating from the Flamedos in 2017, she moved to LA, where she was joined by a team of dancers and choreographers, who were also from Paris.
This is when she discovered that ballet is not only a big deal in the US but is also an important part of her life.
“It’s an interesting thing because I really like to dance and I really enjoy being able to show off my body and my talents,” she said.
“It’s not just about what I’m doing but what I want to do.
I think I have the right kind of freedom.”
As the team continued to hone their skills, Jodis started working with ballet instructors in LA.
After one lesson, she told her parents that she wanted to learn to dance.
“My mother was like ‘no, no, no.
You’re too young.
You can’t do this.
You have to go to the States,'” she recalled.
“They were like, no no no, I’m going to get you a ballet teacher.”
So, in January of 2019, she landed in New York.
She’s been there ever since.
“This year has been really exciting, because I’ve been able to see my career really take off,” she explained.
“My career is really different now, because it’s not so much about what we do as it is about how we do it.
I feel really good about what has happened.”
As for how she feels about going into the field of ballet, Jodi said she was just glad that her passion for the art has led her to be a better dancer and a better person.
“A lot of people would look at me and think, ‘oh, she’s just an aspiring dancer,'” she said of her younger self.
“But ballet is really about so much more than just dancing.
It’s about life and relationships and relationships with family and relationships in general.”
